Love-Bombing / Fast-Forwarding
Overwhelming affection and premature commitment that creates rapid attachment and often precedes instability.
Healthy connection can handle pacing. If someone tries to accelerate to month 12 in week 3, slow it down and watch whether the connection deepens or collapses. Pump the brakes and watch her reaction — that's the real test.
What It Looks Like
- She’s talking about being exclusive by date 2 or 3
- She’s introducing you to important people almost immediately
- She’s making long-term plans within weeks
- The intensity is flattering but also unsettling
- “I’ve never met anyone like you” / “Where have you been all my life”
What’s Happening
Love-bombing is overwhelming someone with affection and commitment to create rapid attachment. Sometimes it’s deliberate (narcissistic love-bombing — the idealization phase before devaluation). Sometimes it’s unconscious (anxious attachment flooding forward). The effect is the same: you’re being rushed into intimacy that hasn’t been earned.
What This Means
Red flag regardless of intent. Healthy relationships develop over time. If someone tries to accelerate to month 12 in week 3, they’re unstable, manipulative, or too anxious to tolerate normal pacing. None of these are good.
Navigation
- Pump the brakes. “I’m really enjoying getting to know you. I want to let this develop naturally.”
- Watch her reaction. Does she respect the boundary, or does she push back?
- If she pushes back or guilt-trips you for wanting to slow down — major red flag. Walk.
- The test distinguishes deliberate from anxious: someone who’s just anxious will respect your boundary and adjust. Someone manipulating you will get angry, guilt-trip, or withdraw entirely.
Discrimination
Love-bombing or just enthusiastic? If she’s consistently showing up AND talking about the future — enthusiasm. If she talks about the future but is flaky, distant, or inconsistent — future-faking. If she accelerates the relationship timeline on every dimension simultaneously — love-bombing.
