Dating Compendium
Phase 1

Foundation: Before You Start

Everything that happens in weeks 1 through month 3 is downstream of what you bring to the first date. This phase is about you — your wiring, your life, your standards — before it’s about her at all.

Know Your Attachment Style

You have one, and it will show up in every interaction. Most people are a mix, but one style usually dominates.

Anxious: You crave closeness, fear abandonment, read into silences, spiral when she’s busy. In dating, this is the guy who double-texts and mistakes her independence for rejection. You’re wired to chase.

Avoidant: You value independence, feel suffocated by closeness, withdraw when things get emotional. You’re great for three weeks, then suddenly feel “trapped.” You’re wired to flee.

Secure: Comfortable with intimacy AND independence. You communicate directly, don’t read threat into ambiguity, trust until given a reason not to. This is the target state.

Why this matters: the advice in this compendium lands differently depending on your wiring. If you’re anxious, the defensive material (don’t over-invest, keep your life, watch red flags) is medicine. If you’re avoidant, that same advice is gasoline — it will license your withdrawal as wisdom. Know which one you are before you use any of this.

Quick self-test:

  • When she doesn’t text back quickly, do you spiral and start drafting explanations? (Anxious)
  • Do you feel suffocated when someone wants more of your time? (Avoidant)
  • Can you be unsure about something without panicking or disappearing? (Secure)

The Golden Rule of Advantage

You can maximize advantage AND be a good person. The line:

Don’t do anything to her you wouldn’t want done to you.

That means no manufacturing insecurity to make her chase you. No lying about your options or availability. No deploying intermittent reinforcement as a strategy. No weaponizing her emotions.

What it DOES mean: build a life that makes you genuinely less dependent on any one outcome. Understand power dynamics so you don’t get played. Maintain your standards when she tests them. Be willing to walk if the dynamic isn’t reciprocal.

That’s not manipulation. That’s self-respect with teeth.

Build the Actual Life

The advantage everyone wants — the calm, the options, the non-neediness — is a byproduct, not a technique. You get it by having:

  • Friendships you actually invest in
  • Skills and interests you’d pursue even if no one ever saw them
  • Communities that matter to you
  • Routines and commitments you don’t abandon when someone becomes available

A man with a full life is more attractive than a man who treats dating as his entire world — not as a trick, but because it’s true, and she can tell the difference.

Use Frameworks as Clarity Tools, Not Shields

The patterns and frameworks in this compendium are for after dates — when something felt off and you can’t name it. They exist to tell you: this pattern exists, it’s not unique to you, you’re not crazy, here’s what it usually means.

A framework earns its place in your head only if it changes a behavior within a week. If it only changes how you narrate events, it’s decoration. If you’re decoding her attachment style from text cadence, you’ve crossed from self-awareness into rumination — and rumination is just anxiety wearing glasses.
