The One-Way Interview (She Doesn't Ask About You)

Conversations are all about her — you realize after several dates she knows almost nothing about your life.

Bottom Line

If she never asks about you, she's either self-absorbed or not that interested. Try one direct share or invitation to ask. If nothing changes, this dynamic won't either — decide accordingly.

What It Looks Like

  • Conversations are all about her — her day, her feelings, her stories
  • She responds when you share, but never initiates questions about you
  • You realize after several dates that she knows very little about your life

What’s Happening

She’s either self-absorbed, not that interested in you as a person, or both. Someone genuinely interested asks questions. They want to know about your life, your thoughts, your history. If the conversation is a monologue with you as audience, she’s dating herself and you’re the witness.

What This Means

Low interest or low emotional capacity. Either way, you’re doing all the connection-building work while she receives. A relationship where one person is the audience and the other is the performer isn’t a partnership — it’s a subscription service.

  • Notice it early (2-3 dates is enough to see the pattern)
  • Try one direct intervention: share something vulnerable or ask “what do you want to know about me?”
  • If she still doesn’t ask about you after that — the pattern is confirmed
  • Decide accordingly. This almost never changes.

Discrimination

One-way interview vs. nervousness? Some people are nervous on early dates and default to talking about themselves because it’s safe. The difference: a nervous person will still ask you questions once they relax, usually by date 2 or 3. A one-way interviewer never does, no matter how many dates you’ve been on.
